UC Irvine Extension will be hosting another FREE webinar series in February 2011 to give teachers, administrators, and parents of the gifted an opportunity to gain knowledge, skills, and experience from experts in the field. If you strive for a better understanding of the needs and capabilities of today’s gifted and talented students, you won’t want to miss this series!

* Parenting a Gifted Child: Common Dilemmas and Practical Solutions
Wednesday, February 9, 2011 8:00-9:00 p.m. PT
Some discussion items will be underachievement, perfectionism, heightened sensitivities and creative talent. Emphasis will also be placed on developing positive, proactive relationships with site administrators and teachers.

* Enriching the WHOLE Gifted Child
Wednesday, February 16, 2011 8:00-9:00 p.m. PT
In our current standards-based world, it has become even more critical for teachers and parents to enrich GATE students in a holistic manner. This webinar will provide ideas on how to increase the level of rigor and relevance in your student’s daily learning activities. Beyond the academics, participants will learn how to identify students’ multiple intelligences and receive resources to help students organize their thoughts, become intellectually responsible, and learn how to meet their social and emotional needs.

* Collaborative Learning with Wikis
Wednesday, February 23, 2011 8:00-9:00 p.m. PT
This webinar will highlight the various ways teachers can use wikis to foster collaboration in heterogeneous classes. The integration of wikis into the curriculum supports the acquisition of 21st century skills. Specific lessons on differentiation as well as the use of Thinking Tools and Think Like a Disciplinarian will be included.
