Montana AGATE Annual Conference

January 22, 2011

Block out Thursday April 28 through Saturday April 30, 2011, on your calendar.  Those are the dates for Montana AGATE’s spring conference, entitled “Sharpening Minds with Gifted Education”, in Kalispell.   Even better, register now!

Although the conference is primarily geared for teachers of gifted students, parents will also find many sessions insightful.

We’ll have a couple of fantastic keynote speakers:  Sally M. Reis and Terry W. Neu.

  • Sally Reis

Thursday’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Sally Reis of the University of Connecticut.  She will be speaking about advanced readers and strategies schools can use to reach them.  She will also do a breakout session on gifted girls, another area in which she specializes.

  • Friday’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Terry Neu speaking about gifted boys.  He will also do a breakout session on inquiry-based strategies teachers can use in the classroom.  Dr. Neu  has done extensive work with gifted students with disabilities.   He has consulted nationally on the gifted with emotional or behavioral disorders and on differentiated instruction.
  • Saturday morning will consist of a workshop by Dr. Carol Tieso of the College of William and Mary.  She will be talking about differentiation strategies and curriculum for advanced learners.
  • The schedule for Thursday and Friday will also consist of about 15-20 additional breakout sessions each day from which you can choose.  The final program will be finalized in mid-March.

Conference registration costs $185 and includes 3 meals.  If you want to keep the costs down, recruit 3 friends to go with you, because the fourth registration (sent in the same envelope) is free!   If affording even that much is impossible for you, there are also a limited number of fee waivers for parents.   But you’ll want to hurry and get your registration submitted and a hotel room booked.
