Inspiring Future Engineers

January 27, 2012

Do you have a child  who shows an interest in building things?   Is there a budding engineer in the house?  Or do you have a child like mine, who is timid about entering new situations and needs a preview of a new club or group before he’ll decide to join?

Bring your child (2nd to 7th grade) to observe the FIRST LEGO League competition, being held in Bozeman on Sat., Feb. 4 at Shroyer Gym at MSU.   (Best time to come and observe is 11-12 for the practice rounds or 1-3:40 during the competition rounds.)

What is FIRST LEGO League? A robotics competition that “introduces younger students [4th to 8th grade] to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface.” But read more about it here.

What’s going to be happening on February 4th?  Watch this video to get a sense of what’s involved in this year’s challenge.

Where is Shroyer Gym?  Here’s a map.

If what you see inspires you, find out about starting a team here.
