Who Are Candidates for Acceleration?

Here are examples of situations that may require individual program adjustment, including some form of acceleration.

  • A student with a strong passion and knowledge of a particular subject through prior experience or exposure.
  • A student with prior experience in foreign language who wishes to skip introductory level classes or earn credit by exam.
  • A student whose math skills and comprehension are advanced to the point that she can score proficiently on the next year’s final math exam.
  • An early primary student who is a capable reader and who has number sense and basic operations, particularly if he is losing interest in or enthusiasm for school.
  • A student who has undertaken online coursework to augment his regular classes and has acquired the capability to test out of a unit of study.
